Slurry handling / Procurement guide

Slurry pump for mineral processing

Mineral processing pump requirements should follow the particular process stage and stream being considered. Identify the upstream and downstream equipment, the available slurry measurements and the requested duty. Use those records to ask for a configuration response that matches the plant drawing and the stated processing conditions.

Locate the processing stage

Mark the relevant process stage on the plant flow diagram and identify the stream entering the proposed pump location. Name the upstream and downstream equipment using the plant tags. Ask the supplier which additional process information is needed to distinguish this duty from other slurry transfers elsewhere in the same plant.

Keep proposed plant changes separate from the current process description. Identify whether each drawing represents an existing arrangement or a planned configuration. Ask the process owner to confirm the stream boundaries before submitting the enquiry, and request a supplier response that refers to the same stage and drawing revision throughout the equipment discussion.

Record the process slurry condition

Submit available concentration, particle distribution and fluid records for the selected processing stream. State the measurement definitions used by the plant or laboratory, and identify the sampling location. Ask which additional details are needed to review the proposed pump against that stream rather than another slurry from the same operation.

Describe variations associated with the processing conditions in separate entries. Link each sample to the process state under which it was collected. Request clarification if the equipment proposal uses a slurry description different from the submitted record, and refer any proposed substitution of sample information to the process specialist responsible for the duty.

Define the processing duty cases

Submit flow and head together for each requested process condition, identifying the matching stream record and system drawing. Distinguish requirements provided by the process designer from observations taken at the existing installation. Ask for the proposed configuration and its performance document to address the same paired requirement before comparing equipment offers.

Ask the supplier to identify which process cases are covered by its response. Keep alternatives for changed throughput or routing in separate proposal entries. Request updated performance documents if the process team changes the duty during procurement, and retain the operating case labels so the technical team can trace each answer to the intended requirement.

Review the plant connection drawing

Provide the piping arrangement around the pump location and mark the equipment supply boundary. Identify available space, connection positions and existing components intended for reuse. Request the proposed outline and connection documents, and ask the plant team to compare them with the current drawing before accepting the suggested arrangement.

Ask for any changed connection or equipment position to be identified explicitly in the proposal. Request separate descriptions of included drive and accessory items. Refer interface questions to the appropriate plant discipline so the pump quotation can be compared against the actual processing installation without leaving an unassigned connection within the purchasing scope.

Gather process maintenance observations

Attach available inspection photographs and maintenance records from the existing processing duty, identifying the equipment and stream concerned. Describe the observations as recorded rather than assigning a cause. Ask the supplier which further information is needed to discuss component inspection and the maintenance documents for the proposed pump assembly.

Request the corresponding impeller, liner, seal and bearing identification information for the proposed configuration. Ask which document should be used when raising a replacement component enquiry. Keep historical observations linked to their original equipment so the buyer can distinguish a question arising from plant experience from a statement about a newly proposed assembly.

Close the processing enquiry gaps

Compare the returned equipment description with the process stage, slurry records, paired duty and connection drawing. Ask the supplier to answer each unresolved assumption against those documents. Request a revised response if the proposed configuration addresses only part of the operating schedule or introduces an alternative arrangement requiring process team approval.

Ask the process and purchasing teams to identify their remaining technical and commercial questions separately. Request the maintenance and equipment identification documents associated with the configuration under discussion. Confirm minimum order quantity and lead time before ordering, and ask for the packing and receiving information needed for the proposed plant equipment delivery.
