Slurry handling / Procurement guide

Slurry pump solids particle size

A particle size enquiry should identify the sampled slurry and the report behind its particle description. Provide the distribution information available to the buyer, together with sampling conditions and measurement terminology. Ask the supplier which further material records are needed to review the proposed pump against the intended stream.

Identify the sampled stream

Name the process stream and mark the sampling location on the project diagram. Identify the operating condition represented by the sample and its collection record. Ask the process team to confirm that the sample belongs to the pump duty being purchased before using the reported particle description as part of the equipment requirement.

Keep samples from different streams or operating states in separate entries. Identify the laboratory or site record associated with each submitted sample. Ask the supplier to name the sample used in its response, and request clarification if the proposed configuration assumes material information from another stream or an operating condition not included in the buyer enquiry.

Request the particle distribution report

Provide the available particle distribution report rather than replacing it with a general material name. Ask the laboratory to explain the reported size terms and the form in which results are presented. Include the original report identification so the supplier can ask questions about the actual submitted record when discussing the proposed pump configuration.

Ask which additional distribution information is needed for review and whether the submitted report addresses that question. Keep separate reported characteristics distinct in the purchasing brief. Request written identification of the particle record used in the supplier response, and refer unfamiliar terminology or missing report definitions to the buyer specialist before comparing equipment proposals against those terms.

Record the measurement method

Identify the measurement method and sample preparation information stated in the particle report. Ask the laboratory which definitions apply to the submitted results and which limitations it wants the project team to understand. Attach that explanation to the enquiry so the particle question remains connected to the measurement record rather than an unsupported description prepared for purchasing.

Keep results produced under different methods identified separately. Ask the technical reviewer whether the records can be used together in the project brief. Request supplier clarification against the named method and report if an answer depends on information not shown in the submitted document, and obtain the missing record before closing the particle description question.

Describe variation between samples

Collect the available reports representing the operating cases identified by the process team. State which case each sample describes and record known differences using the report terminology. Ask the supplier which cases it has considered when responding to the pump enquiry, keeping any additional material condition as a separate question rather than assuming it is covered.

Ask the process owner whether another sample is needed to describe a requested operating case. Keep observations such as unusual material or changed stream contents tied to their collection records. Request clarification if the supplier response uses a combined material description that cannot be matched to the sample reports submitted for the particular pump duty.

Attach the matching slurry duty

Provide the concentration definition, fluid information and paired flow and head requirement associated with the sampled stream. Identify the route and installation references used by the project team. Ask the supplier to address the particle information within that same duty response so the buyer can review the proposed equipment against a coherent set of material and operating records.

Ask which additional slurry documents are required before the proposed configuration can be reviewed. Keep a performance document associated with its own material assumptions and operating case. Refer the returned information to the project specialist, and request a revised response when the particle report or process requirement changes during the equipment selection and purchasing discussion.

Review the particle enquiry response

Ask for written answers identifying the sample report and particle description assumed for the proposed configuration. Compare those references with the current buyer material records. Request clarification of any changed terminology or unanswered sample question before approving the equipment schedule, and keep the original laboratory information available for the project technical review.

Ask the supplier to identify the proposed equipment and performance document associated with that response. Request maintenance and component identification documents as separate purchase requirements where needed. Confirm minimum order quantity and lead time before ordering, and request the packing and delivery terms for the proposed package without treating a material enquiry answer as a complete quotation scope.
