Slurry handling / Procurement guide

Slurry pump abrasion assessment

Prepare abrasion assessment questions with the slurry sample records and the observations available from the intended duty. Identify where the material and inspection information came from. Ask for a configuration specific response concerning the proposed contact components, keeping laboratory descriptions, existing wear observations and supplier proposals clearly connected to their own records.

Identify the abrasion review task

Name the process stream and the proposed pump duty in the enquiry. Describe whether the buyer wants to review a new installation, existing wear observations or a replacement component question. Ask the project team which material and equipment records belong to that task before requesting a supplier response about the proposed configuration and its contact components.

Keep observations from other duties separate unless their relevance has been reviewed by the process specialist. Identify the equipment reference associated with each inspection record. Ask the supplier to state which task and records it has considered, and request clarification if its response addresses a different stream or assembly from the one identified in the buyer brief.

Collect the solids description

Submit the available particle distribution and material reports associated with the selected stream. Identify the sampling point and the process condition represented by each record. Ask the laboratory to explain any abrasion terminology already present in its report, and request the supplier to identify which further sample information is needed for its proposed equipment review.

Keep concentration definitions and fluid information attached to the same sample description. Ask the process team to review whether the collected material represents the requested operating case. Request written clarification where the supplier response assumes another sample condition, and obtain missing laboratory information before assigning a description to the stream that the original report does not contain.

Record existing wear observations

Attach available inspection photographs and component records from equipment used on the relevant duty. Identify the assembly, component position and operating period concerned where those records are held by the buyer. Describe the observed condition in the terms recorded by the inspection team rather than assigning an unsupported cause or expected service outcome to the proposed equipment.

Ask which additional photographs or component identification documents are needed to discuss the observation. Keep repairs and component changes visible in the equipment history. Request the supplier to distinguish an answer concerning the inspected assembly from a proposal for a different item, and refer any suggested explanation to the buyer specialist responsible for assessing the recorded wear condition.

Provide the operating context

Attach the paired flow and head requirement, route description and slurry condition for each requested case. Identify which operating records relate to the existing wear observations and which describe a planned duty. Ask the supplier to state the operating and material conditions assumed when responding to the abrasion review question for the proposed pump configuration.

Keep different operating cases separated in the requirement worksheet. Ask which cases have been addressed and which remain open for further discussion. Request revised documents if the process team changes the duty or sample description, and avoid treating a response to an earlier operating condition as an answer to a changed abrasion assessment request.

Request proposed component descriptions

Ask for the material and identification documents associated with the proposed contact components. Identify the specific impeller, liner or other component concerned in each question. Request the supplier to explain which submitted material record its response addresses, and refer the proposed component descriptions to the buyer technical team before approving a configuration for further purchasing review.

Keep material alternatives separated in the equipment schedule. Ask for a corresponding component drawing and document reference where a substitute is suggested. Request clarification if a general material discussion cannot be connected to an item in the quotation, and keep any predicted maintenance or service statement as a separate question for the buyer review rather than an assumed purchase condition.

Retain the assessment document trail

Collect the sample reports, inspection observations, operating context and proposed component descriptions under the relevant equipment enquiry. Ask for written answers to unanswered abrasion questions before the technical scope is approved. Request the maintenance and inspection documents corresponding to the proposed assembly so the buyer can identify how future component observations should be tied to that configuration.

Ask the project specialist to review the returned information and identify any further sample or inspection work needed. Keep commercial scope confirmation with purchasing. Confirm minimum order quantity and lead time before ordering, and request the packing, handling and delivery terms for the specific equipment or replacement components included in the proposed purchase discussion.
