Slurry handling / Procurement guide

Slurry pump material compatibility

Material compatibility enquiries should connect a proposed component with a defined slurry and operating condition. Prepare the fluid, solids and cleaning records available to the buyer. Ask for configuration specific material descriptions and a written response to the actual component question before comparing alternatives or approving the equipment scope.

Identify each component question

Name the proposed pump assembly and identify the component concerned in each material request. Distinguish the impeller, liner, seal and other contact items where those are separate questions in the buyer brief. Ask for the configuration and drawing references needed to connect a material description to the actual item being proposed for the intended slurry duty.

Keep a replacement component request separate from a question about a complete new pump assembly. Attach the existing equipment identity and component record where available. Ask the supplier to identify which item its response concerns, and request clarification if a general material description cannot be matched to a component in the equipment schedule under discussion.

Provide the fluid composition dossier

Attach the available composition, treatment and process condition information for the stream entering the pump. Identify the sampling location and the operating case represented by each report. Ask which additional fluid details are needed to discuss the proposed component, and request a written response against the actual buyer records rather than a broad application description.

Identify cleaning substances and other requested fluid conditions separately from the normal stream. Ask the project specialist to confirm which conditions belong in the material review. Request clarification where the supplier assumes a different fluid description, and keep the condition schedule current if the project changes the process information during the equipment enquiry and quotation discussion.

Include solids and duty records

Provide the particle distribution and concentration records associated with the same stream, retaining the definitions used by the report owner. Submit the paired flow and head requirement and identify the route document. Ask the supplier to state which slurry and operating records it has used when responding to the material question for the particular proposed component.

Keep sample descriptions tied to their own operating cases. Ask which additional material records are required before the proposed item can be reviewed. Refer the response to the buyer technical specialist, and request revised component information where the proposed configuration or the process condition has changed since the original material enquiry was issued to the supplier.

Request the proposed material documents

Ask for the material description associated with each component identified in the proposed assembly. Request the relevant component drawing and document revision where available. Ask the supplier to explain any terminology the buyer cannot connect to the item description, keeping the material document attached to the configuration actually being offered rather than an unspecified category or alternative assembly.

Request identification of any material substitution proposed during the quotation discussion. Ask for the substituted component and its corresponding documents to be described as a separate option for buyer review. Refer the returned information to the project specialist before accepting a change, and ask for unresolved component and fluid questions to be answered in writing against the current condition schedule.

Review inspection and traceability requests

Identify the material and component documents the buyer wants included with the proposed equipment. Ask which identifiers should connect the assembly drawing, component description and received item. Request the inspection document list associated with that configuration, and refer any additional buyer traceability requirements to the purchasing and technical teams for review before confirming the scope of the request.

Keep requested documents separate from documents already received. Ask the supplier to identify which proposed items each document would cover and which requests remain open. Request clarification if a component reference changes, and retain the matching material information so a later replacement enquiry can identify the particular assembly and item being discussed rather than a general pump material category.

Approve the component information set

Collect the component identity, fluid and solids records, duty description and supplier material response under the proposed configuration reference. Ask for written clarification of any unanswered condition or item question. Refer proposed alternatives to the buyer technical reviewer before purchasing approves the equipment description, keeping the final component schedule connected to the current project requirement throughout the comparison.

Request the maintenance and replacement identification documents associated with the proposed assembly. Ask purchasing to compare the included equipment and document scope separately from the material review. Confirm minimum order quantity and lead time before ordering, and request packing and delivery arrangements for the exact equipment or replacement components included in the proposed purchase discussion.
