Slurry handling / Procurement guide

Slurry pump concentration requirements

Slurry concentration enquiries need the definition behind the reported value as well as the value itself. Identify the sampled stream, collection conditions and measurement method in the buyer brief. Ask the supplier to state which concentration record it has used when reviewing the proposed pump and the requested operating duty.

State the concentration definition

Ask the laboratory or process team to identify the concentration definition used in the submitted report. Retain the original wording and reporting basis in the equipment enquiry. Request clarification of any abbreviation or term the purchasing team cannot trace to that definition before asking the supplier to address the intended slurry concentration requirement.

Keep records using different definitions separate in the enquiry. Ask the project specialist which report should govern the pump review rather than combining unlike statements into a new concentration description. Request the supplier to use the same defined term in its response, and raise any difference as a specific clarification question attached to the original report.

Identify the sampling location

Mark the sample collection point on the process diagram and identify the stream concerned. Record the collection information available from the site and the operating state represented. Ask the process owner to confirm whether that location corresponds to the slurry entering the proposed pump duty before using the sample in the equipment purchasing brief.

Keep samples from other locations under their own identifiers. Ask which additional collection details are needed to interpret a reported concentration for this project. Request the supplier to name the sampling record used in the response, especially when the enquiry contains several reports or the process team has provided information from different stages of the same plant.

Provide the measurement record

Attach the concentration report with its measurement method and the sample handling information recorded by the laboratory or site team. Ask the report owner to explain how the stated definition is represented in the document. Include that explanation in the enquiry so the supplier can respond to the reported condition without relying on an informal description.

Keep any revised measurement report identified separately from its earlier version. Ask the buyer technical reviewer to assess differences in method or terminology before updating the requirement. Request supplier clarification against the current report where a response uses another reporting basis, and obtain the missing definition or record before treating the concentration question as resolved.

Describe changing process conditions

Identify the concentration records available for the operating cases in the project brief. Link each record to its sampling location and process condition. Ask the process team which cases should be included in the pump enquiry, and describe gaps as questions requiring further sampling or documentation rather than inventing a single average condition for the stream.

Keep observed variation distinct from a future project requirement. Ask the supplier which submitted cases its proposed configuration addresses and which need another response. Request revised documents when the process team changes the concentration requirement, and retain the operating case labels so the buyer can match each answer with the material record it was intended to address.

Link concentration to the full slurry brief

Submit the concentration report alongside the available particle distribution, fluid information and paired flow and head requirement. Identify the process route used to prepare the duty. Ask the supplier to state which material and operating records form the basis of its proposed configuration response so the concentration question stays connected to the actual pump task.

Ask which additional material documents are needed for review rather than filling gaps with assumptions. Keep sample records for separate streams or duty cases distinct. Refer the returned performance and configuration documents to the project specialist, and request clarification if the supplier response refers to a concentration condition different from the one submitted with the corresponding duty worksheet.

Confirm the reported basis in writing

Request a written response identifying the concentration definition, report reference and operating case assumed for the proposed configuration. Compare those references with the current buyer records. Ask for a revised response if the definition or report changes, and refer any unresolved measurement terminology to the process specialist before approving the equipment description for the quotation discussion.

Keep the concentration clarification attached to the proposed equipment reference and the matching duty document. Request the remaining component or installation information separately so the purchasing review can identify open questions. Confirm minimum order quantity and lead time before ordering, and request packing and delivery terms for the particular proposed equipment package being considered by the buyer.
